What began as an email to staff at my school has become something that I look forward to each week.  I love to investigate new resources for those that teach and for those not necessarily in a classroom.  I hope that you can find things here that you can use!

I remember when I started teaching in the late 1990’s, I used Choice Boards quite often in my classes.  Whether it was a 9 square Tic-Tac-Toe board or some other iterations, they were all the same concept – several assignments to choose from, check off when finished, turn in completed sheet when you are done.

In our current climate of education, with 1-to-1 schools and digital learning always on the horizon, Office365 offers us a way to bring back Choice Boards in a Digital World!

Here’s how I started making them again.

In Office365, I create a new PowerPoint Presentation.  I named it based on the current topic that we are studying.

Next I created boxes to house my activity instructions.

I created “X’s” for students to cover up completed activities.

Finally, I used the remaining space for directions.

Now, to take this to the next level, use your activity boxes to link to websites, on-line field trips, Discovery Ed resources, activities within your very own Canvas page.  With internet access, there’s no limit to where you can take your students.

Once you have completed making your Choice Board, you’ll want to insert it into Canvas as an External Tool – Office365 assignment.

This will allow your students to save the presentation in their own Office365 account, move the “X’s” as the complete assignments, AND they can SUBMIT after each completed activity which allows you to track their progress.
